This sketch is based on the Legend of Zelda, Twilight Princess. The character is Midna, in her Imp form. I decided to go with a different design, combining my knowledge of character drawing with background drawing.
In this image, I was learning how to add details to basic images. In this case, I was learning about adding details to the bricks. I found that having just the bricks made the background look very bland, and wanted to background to have something more appealing.
The upper half of this design is darker than the lower half, in the pencil sketch, this is to illustrate that the upper half of this image should be black. I wanted to make this image look dark and dreary, without adding ink or digitizing the image.
This image was drawn on a 14" x 17" page with a border thickness of 3". Each brick is half an inch tall and one inch wide. The floor tiles follow the one-point perspectives rule in drawing, originating from the center of the page.
